PRESIDENT MAHAMA: DEEDS NOT WORDS
The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is shocked at the
smoke-screen publication of the daily graphic on Thursday the
11th of April, 2013 captioned “ GYEEDA road maintenance covers
120 000km by Zeera”. This publication is palpable falsehood. How
can Zeera talk of 120 000 km of road network to be maintained,
when as of 2010, and as according to the World Bank, Ghana’s
total road network is 109 515 km. Certainly, this is not right,
and AFAG has a strong reason to raise issues on such a phantom
project.
Whilst AFAG welcome the ministerial committee set up to
investigate the allegations of questionable allocations under
the NYEP, AFAG is calling on the press, and as a matter of
essence, on the President to ensure expedited action by the
ministerial committee, and additionally, to make public its
findings. AFAG’s is looking forward to the justification on
allocations due; Zeera (20 million for youth in road
maintenance).
Fellow citizens, this position of ours, do not subdue our
fundamental belief that domestic businesses must be protected
from undue partisan attacks. However, we shall promote our
watchdog role of ensuring transparency and accountable
governance especially where the future of Ghanaian youths
matters most.
Mr. President you are already 100 days in office and we are yet
to see a high profiled intervention on your part to show
commitment towards the fight against crass corruption
manifesting itself in various sectors of the economy. What we
see is strikes all over and labor’s quest to seek social
justice.
It is clear that, the authorities at the National sports Council
(NSC) were heavily indicted by the Maputo report. Yet, there is
such massive silence and inaction whilst this part of the
findings :“the Committee believes that the multiplicity of
problems experienced by Team Ghana at the Games could have been
avoided with better planning, greater concern about the welfare
of the youth of Ghana who were being sent to Maputo to represent
the nation, more competent management of the processes, greater
concern about deriving value for money in the procurement
processes, and a more functional organization” continues to stir
at the President.
Mr. President another part of the report is looking up to your
action; “As things unfolded the Committee found it difficult to
eliminate the theory that the leadership of the Sports Council
preferred a more chaotic organization that allowed for
expenditure”
Mr. President are we sitting down for some greedy few to bolt
with over 200 million Ghana cedis owned by all, as every other
week, the Ghanaian wakes up to witness strike actions in one
form or the other? Things are really falling apart, and on a
rather faster pace.
All we need is deeds and not words; the Ghanaian is suffering
Mr. President.
God bless us all
