Tamale Teaching Hospital now fully accredited – Dr Sory

Tamale, July 15, Ghanadot/GNA – Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has received full accreditation to its status and would operate as such including the training of medical students from University for Development Studies (UDS).

Dr Elias Sory, Director General of Ghana Health Service (GHS) who announced this in Tamale on Tuesday said the next batch of UDS medical students would no longer travel to Kumasi and Accra to complete their courses.

He was addressing the 16th Annual District Directors of Health Services (DDHS) Group Conference.

The conference is one of the management groups of GHS and was formed in 1993 to enable district directors of health to make meaningful contribution towards quality health care delivery in the country.

It was under the theme: “Strengthening sub-district health systems for effective implementation of the high impact rapid delivery towards achieving Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5.”

Dr Sory said officials from Ghana Medical and Dental Council had been in the Region to assess the situation and that facilities at the hospital were satisfying and qualified for the upgrading to its status.

He advised management of the hospital to utilize the opportunity given them to strive hard to justify the accreditation adding that it would relief UDS medical students the fatigue in travelling to Kumasi and Accra to complete their courses.

Dr Akwasi Twumasi, Northern Regional Director of Health Service called on the directors to work hard to achieve the MDG 4 and 5.

He noted that Northern Region had not performed well in most of the parameters and stressed the need for team work to address its infant mortality rate.
