TOR receives 2 million barrels of crude oil from Nigeria
Audrey Agyiri-Inkoom, Ghanadot

Accra, Dec 7, Ghanadot - The Tema Oil refinery (TOR) has two million barrels of crude oil at the Tema port.

The oil supplied by Bonney Light Company of Nigeria arrived at the weekend and is expected that TOR will start refining the consignment this week.

The Managing Director of TOR, Dr. Kwame Ampofo said in this transaction no letters of credit was required.

He said the company brought the crude on a 90-day open credit and an ES-Crow account has been opened by TOR to which proceeds from the sale of processed oil will be put and later converted into dollars to pay the suppliers.

Dr. Ampofo said, refining of the consignment “will start after 700,000 barrels of crude brought in by the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) have been processed”.

He disclosed that as at yesterday, December 6, the 700,000 barrels of crude brought were still being discharged by staff of TOR but he was hopeful its processing will start today, Monday, Dec 7.

He debunked a publication in some sections of the media about the shutting down of the crude distillation plant (CDU).

According to him, there was no cause for alarm and explained that the CDU developed a minor problem when one of its pumps just when it finished processing a type of crude, ERHA.

The Managing Director of TOR explained that “we took advantage of the situation and stopped the CDU to do two things: Repair the pump and ensure a time lapse between new incoming crude and the outgoing ERHA crude to achieve physical separation of the two parcels of crude and thus prevent a co-mingling of products”.
