Media should avoid sensational
stories. Dan Botwe

Accra, April 22, Ghanadot - Mr Dan
Botwe, the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for
Okere constituency in the Eastern Region has called on the
media to desist from writing sensational stories but
concentrate on developmental stories.
According to him, the media is partly to blame for the
recent insurgence of people with dubious characters in the
country. He said, had the media concentrated on reporting
such unscrupulous people and their evil antics on innocent
people, the situation might have improved.
He noted that it was only when there was a
crime case that the media
would give the
story publicity, but
this immediately stopped after the case was over.
This Mr Dan Botwe said, had given people with dubious
character the opportunity to inflict on innocent
some damages.
The Member of Parliament for the Okere constituency said
this when he was commenting on the recent incident in Kumasi
where 106 students at Christ the King International School
were not allowed to take part in the on-going Basic
Examination Certificate Examination after their Proprietor
and the headmaster had taken their
money but failed to register them.
He said, it was the responsibility of the media to educate
parents on how examination registration was done and how
schools should be accredited before it could register
students for the external examination organised by the West
African Examination Council (WAEC).
"The media will never do this but concentrate on sensational
stories which will at the end of the day not help the
ordinary Ghanaian", he revealed.
Mr Dan Botwe has therefore called on all stake holders in
the media industry to ensure that they channel their
reportage on issues that would improve the life of the
ordinary Ghanaian.
