King Tackie Tawiah III is New Ga
Mantse
Accra, April 14, Ghanadot - The Ga State on Saturday
outdoored a new chief, King Tackie Tawiah, III at a
colourful coronation that attracted all the cream of the Ga
Traditional Area and others parts of the country sending
signals that the Ga State was ready for an accelerated
development.
The occasion had a powerful government delegation led by Mr
Samuel Kwaku Boafo, Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Jake
Obestebi Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Diasporan Affairs,
Sheikh I.C. Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister and Mr
Stanley Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra. Others present were
Mr Nat Nunoo Amarteifio, former Mayor of Accra.
There was a heavy police presence to forestall any
unforeseen situation that might arise due to fears of what
might happen following the throwing out of a suit against
the coronation of King Tackie Tawia III.
The coronation comes off after the Greater Accra Regional
House of Chiefs dismissed an ex-parte motion for interim
injunction by the Abola Piam We. The Abola Piam We were
proposing Nii Tackie Obli, a 57- year old publisher and
seeking an order to restrain the Ga Traditional Council from
allowing King Tackie Tawiah to enter and sit out as Ga
Manste or perform the functions of Ga Manste.
Spotting a traditional headgear and a white cloth with
golden patches to match, King Tackie Tawiah, III promised to
patch up with his brothers who were also claiming the seat
he would now occupy adding that, it was necessary to compete
for the seat, “but after today, we all have to come together
and build a prosperous state that would be of greater
benefit to our children and our children’s children.”
Sounding very controlled and somber with shots of musketry
in the background, King Tackie Tawiah, III, known in private
life as Dr Joe Blankson asked for prayers from his subjects
and all Ghanaians for God’s guidance and direction stressing
that Gas all over the state and beyond must arise and be
counted.
He noted that Accra over the last 50 years has grown and
during the recent 50 year celebration, “it was most evident
that the city’s population had grown tremendously making
administration most cumbersome, we should help the
government and other city and state actors to realise our
development aspirations.”
The new Ga State King called on his people to put their
shoulders to the development wheel since the State had not
seen the desired pace and nature of development over the
last 50 years.
“We can see around us a lot of decay and deterioration of
infrastructure and lives, but this must change and it would
take the people of this state to change the situation,” he
added.
He paid tribute to Nii Kwabena Bonney, the “boycotthene “of
the late 1940’s, for their efforts at advancing the lives of
the Ga people, and others such as Nanka Bruce, Vanderpuys
and Orgles all Ga statesmen who helped in the independence
struggle within the United Gold Coast Convention and later
the Convention People’s Party.
King Tackie Tawiah said the Ga State must wake up and
emulate worthy steps taken by his colleagues such as the
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu, and Amoatia Ofori Panyin of
Kyebi and Togbi Afede of Asogli.
“We have an onerous task to undertake and I can assure you
that we would be doing that running, we have been walking
for too long.”
In a speech on behalf of President John Agyekum Kufuor, Mr
Boafo congratulated the Ga State for emerging victorious
without breaking up during the coronation of King Tackie
Tawia III.
Mr Boafo called Dr Joe Blankson, “a jubilee King” saying he
must work to bring all the factions together in order to
bring about greater peace in the state.
Mr Boafo stressed that it was God who makes kings, saying if
God has not called you, there is no way you could be one.
Sheikh I. C. Quaye on behalf of government presented a 100
million cedis as a donation for the out-dooring of the new
Ga Mantse.
