"Are our beautiful
Ghanaian ladies safe?"
Andrew Zugah,
Ghanadot
A 26 year old trained Nurse, Cassandra, said
to Ghanadot that she was forced into what she called
'Prostitution' by the Ghana Health Service which failed to
process her salary for a couple of months.
Cassandra said, she has been
working without salary for the past ten months and all
efforts to get the Controller and Accountant General's
Department to resolve issues affecting
her salary have yielded no results simply because she
refused to "sleep" with the Accountant.
Speaking to me personally, she said owing to her precarious
situation, she is forced to stay with a man to whom she is
not married and does not intend to marry and now performing
wifely duties in return for money for her upkeep and other
basic necessities simply because she live with the man who
is not married to her, neither is he her husband but decided
to pay her rent, give her some money just because she cant
afford to take care of her self and it's "hell" she said to
me.
I'm not the only person, most of my colleagues are going
through the same situation and is very, very painful," she
lamented.
Cassandra, how do you feel for this situation?" i asked, to
which she responded, "to me is very, very sad for a Nurse to
go through these things. i don't like talking about it but
the way things are going now, is better i say it.This is the
most "stupid" thing i've ever done and is the thing i will
be glad to stop because it is exacting a heavy toll on me
she lamented.
