Minister
calls on religious bodies to stop separating rich from poor
Accra, May 19, Ghanadot/GNA
– Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, Minster of Youth and
Sports, has called on religious leaders to put a stop to
social segregation during socio-religious gatherings.
“These days it is common to have churches and religious
organizations allocating seats to people according their
social status.
“Much emphasis is now laid on wealth during religious
gatherings instead of equality and these must stop”. The
Minister stated.
Alhaji Muntaka, who was speaking at the Meet-The-Press
series in Accra, said the situation has rather contributed
to moral decadence, adding that the youth of today placed
much premium on wealth instead of morality.
He said it was time for religious leaders to help the
Government to fight the high rate of immorality in the
society.
According to the Minister, the youth has resorted to crude
ways of making money such as internet fraud known as
‘Sakawa’ because society has placed much premium on wealth.
Alhaji Muntaka said the elderly must also contribute towards
the fight against cyber fraud and other criminal activities
in the country by leading exemplary lives.
On Sports, he indicated that the Ministry would soon
commence a talent identification exercise for all the
sporting disciplines.
This, he said would help to identify people with sporting
talents at tender ages for their proper grooming towards
stardom.
