Parents asked
to reduce burden on pupils
Ho, July 9, Ghanadot/GNA - Parents
have been advised to lighten the burden of household chores
on their wards, especially those about to take major
examinations and motivate them to be studious.
Mr Joy Akpebu, a Circuit Supervisor at the Ho Municipal
Directorate of the Ghana Education Service gave the advice
at an assessment meeting of teachers, parents and final year
students of Kabore School Complex Junior High School in Ho
on Tuesday.
The meeting, an annual affair on the school's calendar
enabled parents to see their wards' academic standing and
together with the teachers adopt a common position to fine
tune them for the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
Mr Akpebu observed that many academically poor pupils, who
received moral and material support from their parents, were
able to rise to become the best when they came to terms with
their situation and resolved to turn things around.
He therefore urged parents to apply every resource at their
disposal to sharpen the competitiveness of their wards in
the increasingly challenging academic environment.
The Headmaster of the School, Mr Fred Akpah, said too many
extra classes, contrary to helping students to prepare
adequately for their examinations, rather denied them enough
time to study.
He urged those students who did not appear to have been
doing well to see their current situation as a challenge to
put in more effort because some of their predecessors in
similar situations emerged tops in the BECE once they became
focused.
