Registrar General’s Department to issue new certificates
to protect against fraud
Accra, July 28, Ghanadot/GNA
- The Marriage Registry of the Registrar General’s
Department is to issue new marriage certificates with
security code to prevent fraud and easy duplication.
The new certificate has an embossment of the Ghana Coat of
Arms and other security features.
Mr Joseph Kofi Harlley, Acting Registrar, said this on
Tuesday at a workshop in Accra for stakeholders on the new
standard operating procedures in marriage registration.
It was organized by the European Union in collaboration with
the Ghana Immigration Service.
In a speech read on his behalf, Mr Harlley said there was
the need to implement a new standard of operations in the
wake of the influx of illegal sources of documents such as
birth and marriage certificates and passports to acquire
travel documents and visas.
The workshop was also to train stakeholders in the Marriage
Registry in document fraud detection and identify lapses in
current operating procedures so as to produce and adopt a
transparent marriage documentation scheme.
The stakeholders included personnel from the Crime
Investigation Division (CID) of the Ghana Police Service,
Bank of Ghana, National Identification Authority and
religious leaders.
