Ghanaian Musician performs in New York
Masahudu Ankiilu Kunateh, Ghanadot
The much-anticipated Annual Ghana Independence
Celebration for New York City featuring the debut
performance of Batman Samini was a smash success as
the ever-energetic performer dazzled the sold out
crowd with a spectacular live band performance of
his hit songs.
He performed old tunes plus hit singles from New CD
“Daagati” and the crowd just went crazy when he
performed “My Baby”.
The crowd came in thick from New Jersey, Maryland,
Washington D.C, Virginia, and Connecticut to be a
part of this once in a lifetime concert. The
ballroom was packed with people and excitement as
the Dance Floor went busy with great tunes courtesy
of DJ Ice from UK, Emcee Flip Man and Co- host
Coscanino of UnderDaRock Entertainment. Other
artists that performed included American born,
Ghanaian artist PIZZY, Lighta, Katcha, B-Nice, and
Nana NYC.
After the show, there was an endless queue of people
for pictures with Samini as well as the opportunity
to have the autograph of the star.
The outgoing Consul General of Ghana for the New
York Office, Mr Obeng Busia was also available to
extend a heartfelt welcome to Samini. This event was
a benefit charity to sponsor The Girls Institute of
Science & Technology (GIST) School located in Agogo,
Ghana. Proceeds will help to sponsor the GIST
University Bound Program; a four week residential
college preparatory program for the girl child.
Samini also used his stay in US to perform some
duties as a Cultural Ambassador for Ghana. He
visited the HABESHA (Helping Africa by Establishing
Schools at Home and Abroad) local youth in New York
City. He was invited by Keisha Ames, New York
Program Director of HABESHA to speak with American
youth about Ghana. The youth will be travelling to
Ghana for the first time in July 2009. Samini spoke
to them about the significance of American youth
learning about Ghana and the importance of Dagaati
“knowing their roots”.
CEO, Hashim Haruna of Boogie Down Nima Productions
sends special thanks to Ms. Shannan "Akosua" Boateng,
Betty Brown, Ohemaa Ladies, Concept X and the
