MTN invests $2million into socio-economic projects in
Ghana

Ghana, a leading telecom company in Ghana has announced that
since its entrance into the Ghanaian telecom market, the
company has invested about $2million into socio-economic
development projects in the areas of health and education.
These include the MTN/UNDP ICT centre project which 10 ICT
centres are being built across the length and breadth of the
country and the MTN Foundation recently launched the MTN-AED
project in Tamale to increase numeracy and literacy in
primary schools in the Northern Region.
The Chief Marketing Officer of MTN, Mr. George Andah made
this known at the launch of MTN’s “Who What To Be Rich”
“WWTBR” Television Quiz programme in Accra, over the
weekend.
As the title sponsors of the WWTBR, he said MTN was pleased
to support the country’s education through such programmes
that was not just entertaining but rewarding.
Mr. Andah, who is also the Marketing Practitioner of the
year 2008 assured that the company would continue to bring
the biggest and best programmes such as “who wants to be
rich” as well as providing quality telecommunication
products and services to Ghanaians.
The Minister of Communications, Mr. Haruna Iddrisu urged MTN
to use the programme to deepen the understanding of the
Ghanaian cultural values, as well as issues relating to
malaria, HIV/AIDS and the swine flu pandemic.
The Minister of Information, Mrs. Zita Okai Koi commended
MTN for commissioning the Maternity Block of the Korle-Bu
Teaching Hospital, saying this would a long way to alleviate
the plight of women in the country.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director of Aero, one
of the sponsors of the programme noted that as a globally
successfully TV programme which made many rich all over the
world, he was confident that many Ghanaians would also be
rich through the programme.
Instructively, “Who Wants to Be Rich” is a general knowledge
television programme with unique presentation flair and
attractive cash prizes that has catapulted the programme
into record books as a global phenomenon.
It is currently licensed in an incredible 100 countries with
more to follow, making it the biggest TV quiz programme in
the world.
The programme will be shot in locations in Nigeria and by
the Ghana Television (GTV) is to complement the Ghana’s
educational effort with an interest programme.
The WWTBR is based on a simple concept of one contestant
winning cash a prize as questions are answered correctly.
The cash prize to be won gets bigger with every question
answered correctly, with 15 consecutive correct answers
winning the contestant GH¢50,000.
