CAF select 16
referees for U-17 Championship
Accra, March 8, GNA – The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF)
has released a list of 16 referees to officiate in the 2007
Africa Under-17 Championship scheduled for Lome, Togo.
Conspicuously missing from the
list are Ghanaian referees despite their being rated one of
the consistent and finest ‘Knights of the Whistle’ on the
continent.
This makes Ghana, one of six out of eight participants
without a match official in the 14 day competition.
Information gathered by the GNA Sports said the lists is
made up of eight referees and eight assistant referees.
The selected referees are Pa Bou Sarr (Gambia), Atsoo Kokou
(Togo), Nahe Leonard (Cote d'Ivoire), Sidibe Boubacar
(Mali), Kaoma Wellington (Zambia), Samir Osman (Egypt),
Omgba Zing (Cameroon) and Haimouda Djamel (Algeria).
The assistant referees include Kapou Koffi (Togo), Peter
Edibe (Nigeria), Alem Costa (Cape Verde), Fassinou Alex
(Benin), Gooding Augustine (Liberia), Mohamed Abdella
(Sudan), Quarquori Abdelhak (Morocco) and Manuel Candido
(Angola).
Federation of International
Football Association’s (FIFA) Alex Kotey was the only
Ghanaian who participated in the last edition held in Gambia
in 2005.
