Lome, March 25, GNA - Black Starlets of Ghana managed a lone
goal win over their Tunisian counterparts to grab bronze at
the African U-17 Championship in Togo.
The Ghanaians held on to Striker Adams Sadick's 24th minute
goal to ensure they returned home at least with a medal,
from the tournament many tipped them to win.
Adam's goal that increased his tally to four, the highest so
far in the tournament was a pass from Ransford Osei.
He took off and shrugged off his marker before sending a
hefty shot past the Tunisian goalkeeper.
The Ghanaians probed to increase the tally and 10 minutes
later Abeiku Quansah nearly scored the second goal when he
received a pass from the midfield, sped off and gave shot
that sailed over the cross bar.
They failed to utilise most of the chances that came their
way with Osei and Adams as the most offenders.
In the 42nd minute, Adams messed up with a yawning net when
he shot wide.
Let off the hook, the North Africans managed to warm
themselves into the game after the recess and dominated play
in a manner that made many believed the equalizer was in
sight.
Ghana's goalkeeper David Dadzie playing his first game in
the tournament, gave many the reason to question why he was
kept on the bench for all this while.
In the 77th minute, Dadzie made a spectacular save that
denied Tunisians the equalizer when he dived to push to
safety a shot from Hadhria Nour.
Both teams together with Nigeria and Togo would represent
Africa at the World Under-17 Championship in the Republic of
Korea this summer.
