POWER CRISIS: PRESIDENT’S WASTEFUL ASSURANCES

Fellow Countrymen, it is with pain that AFAG speak across, and through the hearts of most Ghanaians on this debilitating power crisis without an end in sight. Ghanaians are faced with an Irony of fate, largely by an electoral “manipulation. “

The current energy crisis is a great mockery to our developmental milestone. It is collapsing jobs, yielding joblessness, undermining domestic business efforts and impoverishing Ghanaians. Currently, large numbers of newborn babies are dying as a result of erratic power supply. It is also reported that blood for life saving at the National blood bank are getting saggy because of "dumsor". In the midst of all these national catastrophes and killer tax regime, the president has shown no leadership nor has his globe trotting love, yielded any meaningful results.

The VRA’s announcement that, the power crisis will deepen without any tangible reason is absolutely unacceptable. This comes at a time when the President of the Republic had assured Ghanaians during the National prayer and thanksgiving service of an end to off peak load shedding by government an eventual end to load shedding in April 2015. Also, The President said at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Presidential debate prior to the 2012 general elections. “The power crisis will be a thing of the past by the end of 2013,” Three years down the lane, the situation has worsened than ever before! Mr. President, what actually inform you to say these pronouncements?

Fellow Ghanaians, it is a great worry to us that; the president over and over again appears to be gaining notoriety with the use of empty words. As every word from him is a major policy statement, it’s imperative for the president to understand the position he occupies and limitations to the choice of words. He must speak based on substance and not merely to satisfy the listening pleasure of Ghanaians. The President has promised on more than three occasions to end “dumsor” and all have come to nothing! The President now says, dumsor will stop in the shortest possible time. Mr. President, you don't appear to be on top of issues. Please stop you empty assurances, you are confusing Ghanaians.

Fellow Ghanaians, AFAG will not retreat on our position on the President. This president of ours is the most incompetent and indecisive head of state of all times. He is just good at globetrotting without minding his sworn responsibility to solve urgent and precarious situations facing the country. Perhaps, it is because, he is clueless, and lacks the courage to provide the needed leadership.

Mr. President stop-globe trotting and fix the mess. Corruption and the politics of patronage have become unparalleled under your government. You are shirking responsibilities and running away from challenges. Your numerous trips have yielded zilch. The taxpayers’ money is being wasted for expensive per diems and alarming entourage size.

Resolution:

AFAG is launching its “Just Drop Mahama Foras”. This crusade will see AFAG at town hall meetings with ordinary Ghanaians to share their thought on household economy, “dumsor” and corruption.

We are hopeful the NDC will listen to public outcry and change their leader. Ghanaians need a better deal.
