AKUFO-ADDO AND
GHANA’S MAIN OPPOSITION PARTY SEND BEST
WISHES FOR NIGERIA’S ELECTIONS
On Saturday, March 28, 2015, nearly 70
million Nigerians will go to the polls to
elect the next President and Members to the
House of Representatives and the Senate.
It will be the country’s 5th election since
the end of military rule in 1999 and a very
big step in the continuing process of
consolidating democracy in the most powerful
country in our region in the size of both
its economy and population.
The New Patriotic Party and I wish to send
our best wishes to the people of Nigeria for
these elections. We, in the NPP and in
Ghana, generally, join the good people of
Nigeria in praying for free, fair and
peaceful elections across the entire Federal
Republic.
We see the success of democracy in Nigeria
as the success for democracy in Ghana, West
Africa and our continent as a whole. This is
because our destinies, hopes and aspirations
are linked in our collective quest to create
free, fair and modern societies of
opportunity and prosperity in Africa.
We are also pleased by the fact that two
prominent figures of our country are playing
key supporting roles in ensuring a
successful outcome in the polls. Former
President John Agyekum Kufuor heads the
ECOWAS Observer Mission, and President John
Mahama is Chairman of the regional body,
ECOWAS. We are confident that our two
distinguished statesmen will play their
respective roles with the requisite
integrity to advance the cause of democracy
in our neighbouring country.
The whole of Africa is looking up to its
most populous country to come through these
elections with flying colours.
Above all, the people of Nigeria must come
together after the election to carry on the
work of building a strong nation, governed
by the rule of law, respect for human
rights, and the principles of democratic
accountability.
Long live Ghana! Long live Nigeria! Long
live Africa!
……signed……
Nana Akufo-Addo
2016 NPP Presidential Candidate

This
is why there are things we don’t say about race (even
when they are true)
Guardian, UK, March 24, Ghanadot - " I’m
sure this is all true; but this one exchange highlights
just why we need caution. Facts in themselves are
neutral but their interpretation certainly isn’t. And
while on their own facts cannot be racist, the way they
are chosen certainly can be........More |

RTI bill passed for monitoring
Star, March 26, Ghanadot - The International
Monetary Fund’s $940 million bailout programme for Ghana
makes it more imperative for the West African country’s
parliament to pass the stalled Right To Information bill
into law to enable civil society groups and the media

Platform on Ghana’s IMF Bailout has said......More

Let’s not fool ourselves. We
may not bribe, but corruption is rife in Britain
Guardian, March 20, Ghanadot - It just doesn’t
compute. Almost every day the news is filled with
stories that look to me like corruption. Yet on
Transparency International’s corruption index Britain is
ranked 14th out of 177 nations, suggesting that it’s one
of the best-run nations on Earth. Either all but 13
countries are spectacularly corrupt or there’s something
wrong with the index......More |

U.S.$20 Million
Donor Cash Pops Up
Chronicle, March 16, Ghanadot - The Public
Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has questioned
the Ministry of Finance why an amount of US$20.1 million
from Multi Donor Budgetary Support inflow was not
captured in the government's treasury for the year
2012....The Committee was equally not happy with why the
Ministry of Finance also failed to acknowledge
disbursements from the various development partners
totaling GH¢972,785,355.88 covering a period of three
years (2010 to 2012)...... .More
