Arabic Instructors are Up in Arms
against District Education Directorate
Bimbila, May 26 - Reports indicate that Arabic
instructors in the three English and Arabic schools in the
Bimbilla town are angry with the Nanumba North District
education directorate.
According to an eye witness, the Arabic instructors numbering
about 20 on Friday May 23 2014 staged a peaceful protest through
the principal streets of Bimbilla. This was to drum home their
dissatisfaction against the GES directorate’s order to reduce
the number of instructors in the various schools to only one.
This according to the demonstrators was not only a callous move
by the government but also a scheme to fight Arabic education in
the district.
As an indication to further make known their frustrations, all
teachers on government payroll in the three English and Arabic
schools were drove away. A meeting between the disgruntled
Arabic instructors and the District Director of Education ended
inconclusively. Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive, Hon.
Alhaji Mohammed Abass was not available when the protesters
called at his office.
For now, it’s not clear what the authorities will do. What can
be reported is that parents are concerned but remain hopeful
that this issue would be resolved without delay.
