Africa Leadership Academy Update

Webinar on Wednesday, 3rd December 2014 at 6pm South African time (4pm GMT; 8am Pacific time; 11am Eastern time).

Just as public companies hold quarterly "earnings calls" for their shareholders to share results, so too does ALA host an annual conference call with its stakeholders.

2014 has been a tremendous year for ALA. We celebrated the tenth year of the ALA vision, graduated our fifth class and welcomed our seventh cohort of young leaders onto our campus. A pivotal milestone of the past year was the graduation of our inaugural class of students from universities across the globe. We are thrilled that almost two-thirds of them have returned immediately to the continent to take up impactful roles in leading organizations or to pursue entrepreneurial ventures with potential for transformative impact.  We also began construction of our new dormitory, the second-largest investment of resources in ALA's history, which will allow us to increase our enrollment by over 35%. We have continued to expand the impact of our model through programs such as the Global Scholars Program (GSP). GSP enables young leaders from around the world to enjoy an intensive ALA entrepreneurial leadership development experience, and revenue from GSP contributes to ALA's financial sustainability.

Our network of 634 young leaders, (averaging the age of 20) is already impacting communities across Africa. Over 50 student-founded ventures thrive in 15 countries across the continent, creating 209 quality jobs and impacting the lives of almost 6 million stakeholders.

We would love to share some of this progress with you during the ALA Update Call. The call will be an ideal opportunity for you to engage directly with the founders of ALA, Chris Bradford and Fred Swaniker, and to hear from some of our young leaders who will share their perspectives. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas directly with ALA's senior management.

Once again, the call will be held on Wednesday 3rd December at 6pm South African time (4pm GMT; 8am Pacific time; 11am Eastern time)so please do mark this date on your calendar.

FALSE GDP GROWTH FIGURE IN 2015 BUDGET STATEMENT

Release, Nov 21, Ghanadot - From the figures you have provided, GDP (in purchasers' value) only grew in real terms from GH˘32,514.02 million in 2013 to GH˘34,024.35 million in 2014. This represents 4.645 percent growth, not the 6.900 percent you have reported....This is serious misreporting that undermines the credibility of the entire budget statement and economic policy of the government.
