Press Release

CAN

December 24, 2012

CAN supports televising of court proceedings

The Conservative Alliance Network (CAN) would like to support calls for the court proceedings of the challenge to the presidential election results be covered live in the media.

This matter has generated high interest nationally and globally. Many public interest cases like the Ghana @ 50, MV Benjamin, National Reconciliation Commission etc had live coverage. We believe the challenge to the presidential election results deserves same or much more coverage since it bothers on a highly sensitive and critical matter in our national life. Covering the court proceedings live in media will only entrench transparency and full participation of the citizenry.

Ghana has another opportunity to showcase its democratic maturity and respect for rule of law.

We will like to also commend the New Patriotic Party and its 2012 flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, for resorting to due process and the courts to resolve such a delicate matter. Indeed, matters like this have turn otherwise peaceful nations into war torn countries.

CAN congratulates Ghanaians for the peaceful nature the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections went despite the challenges recorded on the first day of voting.

Finally, we call on Ghanaians to remain calm and observe as the court proceeding progress.

Love Live Democracy.
Long Live Ghana.
