TORGBUI FITI WAS RECKLESS AND
IRRESPONSIBLE IN HIS COMMENTS
I am greatly saddened by the comments made by Torgbui
Fiti IV, paramount chief of Aflao traditional area of
the Volta Region, during the recent visit of President
John Maham to Aflao and as a voltarian I feel obliged to
make the following observations.
Torgbui Fiti IV while seeking to take credit for the
over 80,000 votes that John Mahama reportedly made in
Ketu-South constituency, promised to increased the votes
to over 100,000 in 2016. I find this comments reckless
and highly irresponsible especially coming from a chief.
This comment is also very offensive to the good people
of the Ketu-South constituency because Torgbui Fiti
seeks to position them as stooges who would do as they
are told. Torgbui Fiti’s comment seeks to entrench the
impression out there that voltarians do not have any
option but would always vote for a particular party.
This impression being created by Torgbui and his ilk is
very much unfortunate and insulting to the average
voltarian. Voltarians are a free and a thinking people
who would as from now elect their leaders as their
conscience tells them to. We would not vote for someone
just because a chief for his own selfish, personal and
parochial interest promises President Mahama 100,000
votes.
I feel extremely scandalized, comparing the comments
made by Torgbui to the comments made by the chiefs of
the Northern Region when they called on President Mahama
some time back. If Torgbui Fiti wants to do NDC
politics, let him excuse himself from the exalted
chieftaincy institution and don party colors, then we
would be free to discuss the integrity and moral
fortitude of the man as we know him. If however he wants
to be seen and treated as a chief, he must begin to
emulate the good examples of other chiefs.
Torgbui Fiti must apologize not only to the people of
Volta Region, he must also apologize to the national
house of chief for bringing the good name of the
chieftaincy institution into disrepute.
