Press Release
Let My Vote Count
September 08,
2015
|
POLICE CAN’T STOP US
PICKETTING ELECTORAL COMMISSION
Representatives of the Let My Vote Count and the
various other pressure groups who plan together to
picket the headquarters of the Electoral Commission
on 16th September, met with the Police today.
The meeting was a follow-up to an earlier meeting
with the Police on 3rd September, where a route was
agreed for a public march from Obra Spot, Circle,
directly to the EC, for us to present our petition
and picket the Commission on the need to have a new
Voters’ register in time for the 2016 General
Elections.
To our dismay, at today’s meeting the Police made a
complete u-turn, obviously due to orders from
‘above’, that they will not allow us to picket the
Electoral Commission because it is a “security
zone”.
We wish to serve public notice to the Police and
government, which we know is behind this arbitrary
move to frustrate our constitutional right to picket
the EC, that we shall march to the EC and picket the
EC as intended on 16th September, 2015.
As far as we are concerned, the EC is not a security
zone, like a place to manufacture weapons of mass
destruction or for keeping sensitive national
security materials. It is a body setup to conduct
public elections in Ghana, and therefore answerable
to the people of the public.
We wish to tell all the groups and individuals who
are joining this picketing, that it is on as
planned. We will gather at Obra Spot and move on
peacefully to the EC.
...Signed...
David Asante

Voters’ Register too Compromised, No Audit Can
Clean It – Bawumia
Commentary, Sept 04, Ghanadot - NDC’s
ongoing biometric registration of their members
as another issue that suggested largely that the
register has been compromised. He explained that
currently the NDC is going round registering
members by taking only their names and their
Voters’ ID Cards and without any machines but
strangely is able to do ID cards for those who
register with their biometric data on it and
their database. .......More

How Africa can benefit from
the data revolution
Guardian, Aug 27, Ghanadot - Our modern
infrastructure is based on information. Since the
1950s, investment in data storage and distribution
by companies and countries has been massive.
Historically, data was centralised a single
database. Perhaps one for representing the health of
a nation, and another database for monitoring social
security. However, the advent of the internet is
showing that many of our existing data systems are
no longer fit for purpose.....More

the pain as dollar climbs
Ghanaweb, Sept 08, Ghanadot
- The reason: a huge fall in the value of Ghana's cedi

repayments on his $90,000 mortgage, which he took
denominated in U.S. dollars to secure lower interest
rates.....His monthly payment has jumped to 2,620 cedis
($680), compared to 1,200 cedis two years ago, and he is
