Gov’t to
abolish shift system soon-Education Minister
Audrey Micah, Ghanadot
Accra, Sept 16, Ghanadot - The Minister of Education, Mr.
Alex Tetteh-Enyo has disclosed that government will abolish
the shift system currently being run in basic schools in the
country.
According to him, though the shift system has been in
operation for more that 10 years, it has not benefited
anyone, thus the abolishment once infrastructure and other
facilities were put in place.
Mr. Tetteh-Enyo made this known in an interview with Ghana
Dot, when he visited some basic schools in Accra for the “My
first Day at School” programme to welcome fresh pupils to
basic school.
“I though the shift system had been dealt with 10 years ago.
It is not right and would be abolished in due course.
When he was told by heads of schools that the system was in
operation as a result of inadequate classrooms and other
facilities, the Minister assured that more classrooms will
be built to arrest the problem.
“More classrooms and other education facilities would be
provided to cater for the increase in the number of
students”.
The Minister expressed his disappointment at the low
attendance of pupils on the first day at school, and
indicated that the matter would be looked into to see how
best to improve attendance.
