Govt to withdraw more MMDCE nominees
BY Abdul Salam Sule, Ghanadot

Accra, April 17, Ghanadot - Mr Joseph Yile Chireh, the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development has revealed that, the President is considering petitions sent against some of the nominees for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE) and would act accordingly.

He said, the President would not hesitate to withdraw the nominees of those appointed after the petitions against them had been found to be true.

Mr Yile Chireh said this when he explained to the press the recent withdrawal of six DCE nominees by the President.

Those withdrwan are Susana Keelson-Aikins, Agona West, Alaxander Fiifi Ghartey, Efutu, Stephen Blay, Jomoro, Benedict Fosu Adjie, Afigya-kwabre, Abdalla Sibri Nanyuni, Bunkpurugu and Adam Mohammed Aminu, Karaga.

According to the Local Government Minister, there are more petitions against some nominees yet to be named and there is the likelihood that the President would withdraw the nomination of some of them after critically considering the merits of the petitions.

In a related development, barely a day after Mr Obeng Somuah was nominated by the president as the Municipal Chief Executive for the Kwahu West Municipality, some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nkawkaw constituency have staged a demonstration to announce their disapproval.

According to the party supporters who besieged the streets at Nkawkaw this morning with their red bands and placards, Mr Obeng Somuah never contributed to the success of the party in the area and was therefore not their choice.

In an interview with Ghanadot, Mr Dallas Emmanuel, an activist of NDC in the aforementioned constituency said, it was in the year 1995 that Mr Somuah acted as the Secretary of the party and deserted the party after it lost power in 2000.

"He just resurface after the party won the 2008 run-off elections and all of us in the constituency doubt his loyalty to the party", he revealed.

Mr Dallas has therefore called on the President to withdraw the nomination of Mr Somuah, adding, they will advice themselves in the year 2012 if the President failed to respond to their call.
