Accra, July 24, Ghanadot - The US Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Donald Turtlebaum was
yesterday given the rude shock of his life when he was
denied entry to a programme venue after arriving late.
The said programme was the Ghana Investment Forum and the US
envoy was expected to give a key note address together with
President Mills.
President Mills who is said to be a stickler for time and
never shows up late for events arrived on time for the
programme.
It was about 40 minutes later that the US envoy arrived and
he was denied entry into the venue.
Some journalists and several other dignitaries were
reportedly locked out because they were late.
President Mills later said, he was embarking on a personal
crusade to encourage Ghanaians to change their attitude to
time.
He said punctuality would also help draw investors into the
country.
Addressing the opening session of the Ghana Investment
Forum, the President call on Ghanaians to work according to
time.
“I think that we better do things differently, because
capital will move into the areas where it is most
comfortable. And what contributes to the comfort is
regularity, timeliness, honesty, transparency, etc.,”
President Mills told participants at the forum.
President Mills said Ghana cannot attract investment if
citizens continue to be tardy.
A few months ago he warned ministers of state to be punctual
for Cabinet meetings and sources say most Cabinet meetings
have since started on time.
