Upper East Marks World Water Day
Bolgatanga, March 22, Ghanadot/GNA-The Upper East Region on
Saturday marked this Year’s World Water Day with a call on
all stakeholders to ensure that water bodies are protected
and preserved for the welfare of human beings and the
environment.
The occasion was also used to appeal to the general public
to use water judiciously since Government spent huge sum of
monies in water treatment.
Mr. Joseph Kojo Kankam, Administrator of the Ghana Water
Company Limited (GWCL) in-charge of the Region, who made the
call with the Ghana New Agency (GNA) in an interview after
the celebration of the World Water Day in Bolgatanga stated
that, water was very essential commodity to humankind and
could not therefore be downplayed.
He indicated that misuse of water bodies could have serious
health implications on people and hence the need for
precaution measures to be taken to handle water with care.
He entreated consumers to pay their water bills to enable
the Company to facilitate the supply of water.
He asked people who engaged in illegal connection of water
to desist from such practices since the law would not
hesitate to deal with them when found culpable.
The occasion was also used to organize radio talk shows on
the theme of the World Water Day: “Sanitation”, visit of
second cycle institutions to Water Treatment Plant Sites of
the GWCL and clean-up exercise on the premises of the
company and its environ.
