UK High Commissioner bids farewell to
Ghana
Accra, Dec. 13, Ghanadot/GNA – Mr. Gordon Witherel, the
outgoing United Kingdom (UK) High Commissioner, on Thursday
hailed Ghana for good governance and socio-economic
performance, saying, he was leaving with the feeling that
the country was heading in the right direction.
"Ghana is at the forefront of good things happening in
Africa in terms of governance, economic growth and reform.
This is a vibrant time to be here."
He said this when he called at the Castle, Osu, to bid
farewell to President John Agyekum. He is leaving after
almost four years of his duty tour of the country.
The High Commissioner noted that the period of his stay was
marked by improved relations between his country and Ghana,
highlighted by President Kufuor's state visit to the UK at
the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II.
The feeling of warmth and friendship that permeated the
visit, he said, demonstrated the strong ties between the two
countries.
President Kufuor said, it was true that the relations
between Ghana and UK had "really warmed up and become
stronger."
He said his state visit to the UK was something "we will
live with forever. It is indelible."
President Kufuor commended the High Commissioner for the way
he endeared himself to Ghanaians as well as the support and
encouragement that helped to put the country on the path of
growth.
