A memorable experience awaits you at Royal Richester
Hotel
Audrey Micah
Accra, June 7, Ghanadot -
Strong will, determination and perseverance have
been the hallmarks of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ofori as
they pursued their dream to build in Ghana one of
the most exquisite hotels to be found in West
Africa.
Richard and Ester Ofori are the owners of the ROYAL
RICHESTER HOTEL, as the name should reflect.
The hotel is located in East Legon, Accra,
Ghana. |

After departing Ghana to live in the United States
of America for the past 40 years, the couple finally
came back home to settle. What they brought back was
the dream to own a hotel.
For the couple, the creation of the hotel
has also been a way of contributing to the
socio-economic development of mother Ghana. The
magnificent edifice that they have built has created
employment for many Ghanaians.
Mr. Ofori is a trained pharmacist while
Mrs. Ofori is an experienced business
administrator. |
|
Before coming to Ghana, the couple owned a
retail business in the United States that
manufactured and sold jewelries, and dealt
extensively in the import and export side of the
business as well. |

The inspiration to build the hotel came some seven
years ago. Today, the Royal Richerster Hotel stands
ready to receive guests.
According to Mr. Ofori, building the
hotel was not an easy chore. The plan to build came with
many challenges, especially since the initial funding
was from their pockets and from their other enterprises
in the States.
"We almost gave up," said Mr. Ofori. "We
got to a stage where funds were short. But
friends told us to go to the banks for completion
loan."Finally, we approached HFC. They came to
inspect and decided to help. So here we are. |
|
"Now, we feel so fulfilled for having stuck it out.
Friends have been coming to congratulate us since
the building was completed . Some confessed
that they didn't think we could accomplish this
task."
Mrs. Ofori, equally elated by the accomplishment of
the task, provided a moral lesson. She pointed
to the need for women to be supportive of whatever
venture their spouses are involved in.
She
said "to see your husband reaching heights
in his business is your accomplishment."

Mrs
Ester
Ofori says foreigners will bring employment
but they will take their profits out unlike
citizen investors |
|
Mrs Ofori said the creation of business is
mutually beneficial for the investor as well
as the government. She suggested that
government should create a ministry where
people coming from overseas for investment
can go and be assisted.
"We also need incentives, foreigners come
here and they are given incentives to be able to
stay and do business here, but then we must realize that after given all
the incentives, yes, they will employ Ghanaians but
most of their profits will go outside Ghana. But
then those of us who have lived overseas and are
coming home to stay, we also need some incentives in
that area. |
|
|
This will make us tell our friends
who also have the capital to come home and invest in
Ghana." |

She complained about the exorbitant
import duties levied on people importing goods to
the country and asked the government to help, adding
that the system here kills the proft incentive.
Mr. Ofori in conclusion said if he
had the power to change anything in Ghanaians, it
would be to put more emphasis on hard work and self
motivation. He said though Ghanaians are hospitable,
they must do more if they want to progress.

In the near future, the couple would
want to create more Royal Richester Hotels all over

who are living and working in the United States.
