Kumasi, Nov 12, Ghanadot - Adanwomase, a Kente weaving
community in the Ejisu-Juabeng District of the Ashanti
Region showed their appreciation last year to the
exceptional leadership qualities that ex-President Kufour
exhibited during his reign as the president of Ghana and
rewarded him with a cloth designed to fit his fame.
Thus, the Kente, designed by the weavers of the
aforementioned town, was appropriately named 'Kufour Apegya
Ghana,' Kufuor has brought glory to Ghana.
The new kente cloth has since been presented to the
ex-President and is on the market for sale.
Speaking to Ghanadot in an exclusive interview, Mr Eric
Boakye Yiadom, a Kente weaver and secretary to the Tourism
Management Team at Adanwomase said, ex-President Kufour gave
hope to the poor and the needy in the society during his
tenure of office and that motivated them to also reward him
with the naming of the new Kente cloth.
He noted that it was during the rule of ex-President Kufour
that Ghana witnessed massive transformation in terms of
physical development and an improvement in the lives of the
ordinary people.
"He introduced the National Health Insurance Scheme,
Capitation Grant, School Feeding Programme, National Youth
Employment Programme and host of other social intervention
programmes", he stated.
Mr Yiadom said, the major policies that were executed during
the eight year rule of the former President came as relief
to the ordinary Ghanaian.
"Therefore there is no better way to reward Kufour than to
design a new Kente cloth for him to show an appreciation for
his good works" he said.
According to Mr Yiadom, the new Kente cloth has attracted
huge patronage from the general public and that shows how
Ghanaians were happy and content by the rule of former
President Kuffour.
On tourism potential at Adanwomase, Mr Boakye Yiadom noted,
the history of Kente could also be traced to their community
(Adanwomase) and called on tourists to visit the town for a
more richer history about Kente.
"Already, we are making gains in terms of tourists visiting
this place and the numbers have increased from 60 in the
year 2005 to 1800 as at end of September this year and
everybody is warmly welcome", he said.
