Accra, June 30, Ghanadot -
The Immigration Service is
restructuring processes to speed up acquisition of the
travel documents in the country.
Muhammed Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, last week
revealed that a biometric Ghanaian passport with an ECOWAS
inscription would be introduced this September for Ghanaian
travelers.
Media reports in recent times suggest the changes are
unpopular with immigration service staff, who made financial
gains from lengthy passport processing.
Public Relations Officer at the Immigration Service, Maude
Quainoo, said the new arrangement had become necessary
because earlier processes were continuously being abused.
“The essence is to bring sanity into the system,” she
stated.
Meanwhile, more detailed information are emerging about the
ECOWAS passport that will replace the existing national
passport.
According to the Ghana Immigration Service, an education
program would soon begin to make the benefits of the new
passport clear to people.
